Background
Background
“A Cadet is a schoolboy or girl who undergoes paramilitary training”. The Cadet Corps intends to inspire young people between the ages of 12 to 18 years of age to challenge their limits, grow their abilities and go further in life. The Cadet Corps seeks to promote the military mindset, to inspire core values in young people that will help them get the most out of their lives and to contribute to their communities and Federation on a whole.
The Cadet experience offers young people the opportunity to develop valuable personal abilities, build life skills such as teamwork and resilience, and fosters confidence, loyalty, integrity, respect, and a sense of service to others.
The St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force Cadet Corps (SKNDFCC) is a national youth organization, affiliated to the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force and based in the school system. Membership is open to all school children between the ages of 12 to 18 within the Federation. The SKNDFCC is one of the oldest youth organizations in the Caribbean. It was legislated into the Laws of St. Christopher and Nevis in 1917.
The principal objective of the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force Cadet Corps is to compliment the academic curriculum of our schools through the use of discipline, challenging activities and national duty in the building of self-respect, self-confidence and the formation of character in as many of our youths as possible. Alertness, punctuality, a sense of duty, patriotism, respect for authority, camaraderie, and physical and mental endurance are some of the virtues that those who administer the companies seek to instill in our youths.
The Corps is established by the Laws of St. Christopher and Nevis Defence Force Act, Cap 19.14 part VIII under the Ministry of National Security and administered by St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force, Force Headquarters. The Cadet Corps is the only youth organization within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to be legislated into Law.
