Regional Security System (RSS) TI Range Management Course

Members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), including personnel from the Infantry Regiment and Coast Guard Unit, recently participated in a Range Management Course held from March 10 to April 11, 2025.

The course was conducted by the RSS Training Institute in collaboration with Barbados’ Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council.
Manager of the Training Institute, Captain (Dr.) Dreana Marshall-Stuart, explained that the newly introduced Level 3 Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) is a regionally recognised certification. It is designed to validate the competence of individuals responsible for managing the safe conduct of firing activities on ranges.

The qualification enables members of the Defence Force to enhance and update the existing training curriculum to address:

  • Safety protocols for range activities
  • Preparation and setup of ranges for firing
  • Production of written instructions to support firing operations
  • Procedures for managing range accidents and incidents
  • Proper closure of ranges after exercises

The successful completion of the Range Management Course represents a significant step in strengthening law enforcement training and advancing military operational standards within RSS Member States.

Lieutenant Norris Fyfield and Sergeant Browne DV of the SKNDF, having qualified at this level, exemplify the Force’s commitment to professional development and reflect the broader vision of strategic capacity building within the organisation.
