On Sunday, July 6th, 2025, the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) officially launched its 28th Anniversary Celebrations with a powerful and uplifting church service at St. George’s Anglican Church in Basseterre.
Led by Acting Commander Major Kayode Sutton, senior officers, soldiers, and other ranks of the SKNDF gathered in worship and thanksgiving. In his address to the congregation, Major Sutton reflected on the SKNDF’s proud history, from its inception in 1896 to its re-establishment as a regular force in 1997, and expressed deep gratitude to all those who served before and continue to serve today.
The service was officiated by The Rev’d Canon Glenville A. Edwards, Provost & Parish Priest, and warmly supported by the church’s congregation. Special guests in attendance included former members of the SKNADF and the SKNDF, and an ex-member of the British West India Regiment, and other retired service members, whose presence added a strong sense of legacy and honor to the occasion.
The celebration was further uplifted by a trumpet rendition by Sgt. Browne K of the SKNDF Band and a heartfelt performance by the Children’s Choir, creating a memorable and spiritual start to the month-long observance.
The SKNDF extends sincere thanks to the clergy and members of St. George’s Anglican Church for their warm welcome and for sharing this special moment of praise and reflection with us.
This marks the first in a series of events commemorating 28 years since the reactivation of the regular Defence Force, as we continue to celebrate a legacy of service, discipline, and national pride.
