Strengthening Readiness, Augmenting Capabilities

St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force Hosts HA/DR Logistics SMEE in Collaboration with Virgin Island National Guard.

The St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), in collaboration with the Virgin Islands National Guard (VING), conducted a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) on Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR) Logistics and Sustainment from May 26th to 29th, 2025.

Participants included representatives from the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Red Cross Society, and the Ministry of Social Development.

During the exchange, Major Kai Calwood and his team from VING visited key emergency response sites, including the NEMA Headquarters, the Fire and Rescue Services Headquarters, and one of the designated emergency shelters on St. Kitts. These site visits provided critical context for the discussions, enabling real-time assessments and expert advice on improving disaster response capacity.

This exchange significantly enhanced interoperability among agencies, strengthened national emergency response capabilities, and reinforced strategic partnerships across St. Kitts and Nevis’s emergency management framework.

As the 2025 hurricane season approaches, the SKNDF remains steadfast in its commitment to preparedness, training, and resilience. The SMEE has proven instrumental in refining our disaster response capabilities and improving coordination with partner organizations, ensuring timely and effective action when it matters most.
