The St Kitts Nevis Defence Force hosted an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) / Drone Operation training course at Camp Springfield from Monday 15 July to Friday 19 July 2024.
Major Rod Studder and his team from the Florida National Guards engaged members from the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force, Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force, St Kitts Customs and Excise Department , and the National Emergency Management Agency in a week-long Subject Matter Expert Exchange.
The objective was to expand the knowledge base on UAVs, and get hands on experience with flying them.
The members of class were introduced to Counter UAV, UAV identification, the future of UAVs, modification of off-the-shelf UAVs, parts of a UAV, basic operator SOPs, operation of DJI UAVs, thermal imaging for search and rescue, the use of UAVs specific to each agency in the class, and maned/unmanned teaming.
As members of National Security, our mandate to the Federation deems it necessary to be up to date with the technology enhance our surveillance capability and apply the knowledge to enhance Search and Rescue Operations. As we continue to serve the Federation, all training efforts will continue to ensure we operate at the highest standard.
